Future Libby cast one last look over her shoulder – up at the sky, up at limitless adventure and mystery in the stars beyond Earth’s downy atmosphere, up at a galaxy of possibilities. Then the doors closed behind her.So it occurred to me as I was writing the end of The Other Side of Tomorrow that FL really wasn’t ready to ‘settle down’ when she and Future Sheen got back to Earth. She was tired of being doted on by a bunch of superstitious monks, and in her heart of hearts, she yearned to continue her travels with Aurora out in space. Sadly, Aurora was full in to the whole “I want you where it’s safe” crap that heroes love to pull, so FL sacrificed her innermost desires to please her friend (and to be there for the still-extremely-messed-up FS). But who knows? Maybe someday, when her inevitable brood of kids are older and FS’s gotten a handle on the crazy, FL can fulfill her dream of leaving Earth and accompanying her best friend on a grand space adventure :)
